Forms of Media: college bulletin boards

Instead of doing a paragraph a day for five days, I am going to write about five forms of media that I have not attended to here.

The first form of media that I have not attended to is college bulletin boards. It’s funny because I constantly walking around campus, and never really notice the bulletin boards in every building. What you find on these boards are notices for whats going on around campus, whether it’s a band that’s coming, or when finals are going to be. I never paid too much attention to them until this year when I started to become more active with clubs and such. Now I see that it is the perfect way to advertise to college students. Not only is it cheap and convenient, it is the perfect way to let everyone (commuters, residents, teachers, etc), know what’s going on.

The next form of media I have not attended to before is ironically blogs. I have never had a blog before, unless you count a facebook. A few of my suitemates have blogs, and I guess I never fully understood them until I had to create one for this class. I still don’t fully understand them, but I’m getting there. I hear about them all the time, from the people I live with, to even celebrities. It’s crazy to me that now celebrities are connecting with their fans through blogs. For example, Christina Aguilara recently announced the birth of her son through her blog. This type of media is fascinating to me, and I hope to learn more about it with this class. (I’m not going to be putting a picture in for this paragraph, because you are in fact, staring at my blog).

The third form of media that I have not attended to before is cell phones. I know you are probably thinking that there is no way I haven’t owned a cell phone. Well, you would be write. However, cell phones these days aren’t just phones; they are everything form of media you can imagine. Cell phones now come equipped with a camera, a videocamera, the internet, the news, mp3s, itunes, keyboards (for texting), and much more. The reason I say that this is a form of media I have not attended to is because I do not have all those features on my phone, and the ones I do have a barely use. This is interesting to me because it seems with the direction technology is going, we might not even need computers or anything anymore.

The fourth type of media I have not attended to is videogames. At this point you probably think I live under a rock. In all seriousness, I’m not a big videogame person. My mom didn’t let us own them growing up because she wanted us to play outside and be more creative instead. I don’t think I even ever touched a videogame until I was at least sixteen. Even then, I didn’t get to play them because usually the guys took over. This christmas we got a wii. Now I see why this is such an important/popular type of media. This wii was so much fun, I couldn’t even stand it.

The final form of media that I have not attended to is credit card newsletters. I have been receiving these newsletters since I was probably 16/17. This is something that I still haven’t attended to. I do not own a credit card, and I don’t intend to for awhile. However, this is a great form of advertisement for credit card companies. The way they target younger children to try to get them to open one is genius. Not only do they send them these papers early which already appeals to a young teen, but they also add in “perks” to make the credit card look better and cool. I hopefully will not have one for awhile, because that is exactly how people get into debt. In conclusion, those are the types of media that I have not attended to.
